Rare tautomeric forms of porphyrin isomers

(HARMONIA 9 NCN grant 2017/26/M/ST4/00872)

Free base porphyrin usually exists in the trans tautomeric form. The other, cis species lies much higher in energy. Our goal is to obtain and characterize such "unusual" tautomeric in porphyrin and its isomers (porphycene, hemiporphycene). It has been shown that the cis form of porphycene can be stabilized by placing a molecule on a specific surface of a metal crystal. Other options will include incorporation of molecules in plasmonic environments or cryogenic matrices. For the latter, photoinduced tautomeric transformations can be expected.
